Newham Council has granted planning permission for bptw partnership’s Woolwich Reach scheme for Notting Hill Genesis. The 14-storey building rescues a site that had lain derelict for almost 20 years and will provide 28 London Living Rent homes alongside 47 units for private sale. BPTW’s scheme, on the derelict site of a former pub, places an emphasis on the public realm and seeks to take advantage of its riverside location alongside a cherished local park to provide exceptional views back towards the City.
The development sits next to Pier Road, a busy thoroughfare linking the site to the Woolwich Ferry, while its southern boundary overlooks the Thames and improves public access to the Capital Ring, a popular dedicated walking and cycling route around London. A commercial unit and three townhouses activate the streetscape at ground level along a newly formed route to the park.
Consent for Woolwich Reach follows another planning success for BPTW in November with Store Road – a new 163-unit development for The Hyde Group and Galliford Try close to Woolwich Reach. Both Store Road and Woolwich Reach are a part of Newham Council’s ‘Vision for the Royal Docks’ and ‘Arc of Opportunity’, acting as a catalyst for wider regeneration in the area. The Store Road development will provide a range of high quality homes with waterfront views and generous communal amenity, with 40% of the homes being affordable and at least 30% as designated family housing.
