Two Kent based BPTW projects have been referenced in the Governments Design Guidance Papers as key benchmarks in housebuilding standards : Alkerden Gateway and Rochester Riverside Phase 3. Published by GOV UK: The draft Design and Placemaking Planning Practice Guidance (PPG) and Building for a Healthy Life feature formative developments across the UK that are shaping the future of placemaking and neighbourhood design.
Alkerden Gateway

Alkerden Gateway, Alkerden Village, Ebbsfleet Garden City
Captured in Design and Placemaking Planning Practice Guidance, Alkerden Gateway is highlighted as an example of a successfully connected movement network that supports sustainable travel and encourages walking and cycling. The development is located within three pedestrian friendly and low traffic home zones where residents can access picturesque green spaces that encourage positive social interaction.
In including Alkerden alongside other nationally acknowledged communities throughout the UK, the MHCLG is recognising a key neighbourhood that reinforces how carefully designed streets and routes can improve connectivity, reduce car dependency and promote healthier lifestyles.
Rochester Riverside Phase 3

Rochester Riverside, Medway
Phase 3 within a 7 phase commission for Countryside and Hyde, Rochester Riverside is later featured within the guidance with reference to the design of public spaces. The scheme actively champions well being and placemaking with the development recognised for its improvements to physical and visual connections within the Medway. Safe, open spaces for both rest and play have been at the centre of the development encouraging activity for the community in which it houses.
The publications recognise schemes that integrate movement into the landscape and build healthy active places that work well for people and nature. We are delighted that two of our projects have been featured as benchmarks for future developments that will influence new communities across the UK.
