Rochester Riverside

BPTW has been shortlisted in two categories at this year’s Housing Design Awards. Our regeneration scheme at Rochester Riverside Phase 1B was shortlisted in the ‘Completed’ category, and Valley Drive, and age-friendly scheme in Gravesham was shortlisted in the ‘Project’ category.

Rochester Riverside for Countryside and Hyde embraces its brownfield site potential by re-establishing connections between Rochester and the river with a network of public spaces, promoting well-being by opening up the riverfront for all. Testament to the extensive consultation undertaken on the project, the scheme was influenced by the local vernacular, creating a new urban quarter that echoes Rochester’s rich townscape. Phase 1B provides 131 homes as part of an outline masterplan which, when complete, will provide over 1400 homes and 8,000sqm of commercial space.

Valley Drive is an age-friendly housing development that forms a part of the Council’s affordable housing programme. Responding to needs of an ageing population in the area, the scheme will provide 48 affordable homes. The unique typology is inspired by the local rural farmsteads with an emphasis on informal courtyards between buildings. The scheme sets new standards for development within Gravesham and the long-standing collaboration between the practice and the Council.

The only awards promoted by all 4 major professional institutions (RICS, RIBA, RTPI, Landscape Institute and CIAT), the Housing Design Awards celebrate the very best in design quality.
