• Wardalls Grove designed by bptw partnership

Wardalls Grove, South East London

Client: Hyde Housing Association
Quanta: 124 residential units
Architect: bptw architecture

Working alongside bptw’s architectural team, bptw’s planners were appointed as planning consultants on a new residential development on a site in New Cross previously occupied by a disused hospital. Wardalls Grove was transformed into a high quality residential scheme comprising of 124 houses and apartments arranged around integrated communal spaces for residents.

The planning team worked closely with bptw’s architects and the borough’s planning and design officers, subsequently securing approval for the development which was completed in 2012. bptw formulated a strong case to justify the loss of the existing community use, securing approval for an entirely residential scheme, contrary to the mixed use policy designation within the borough. Following completion of the scheme, Wardalls Grove was shortlisted for the Sustainable Housing Awards 2013.
