Isobel Place and Tottenham Town Hall

Client: Newlon Housing Trust
Quanta: 109 residential units
Architect: bptw architecture

Working closely with bptw’s architects, on behalf of Newlon Housing Trust, our planning team secured permission for the alteration and refurbishment of the Grade II listed Tottenham Town Hall, also enabling the development of 109 new modern homes to the rear of the Town Hall.

The scheme was subject to considerable local objection, also requiring approval from English Heritage. Despite a highly restrictive policy on altering listed buildings, bptw were able to make a compelling case for demolition of part of the listed structure and related buildings on the site to facilitate the residential development, as well as to secure the long term future of the Town Hall. Haringey Council Planning Committee members congratulated bptw partnership on the high quality of the design proposals fitting in with the context of the listed building at planning committee. Our work on this project led to bptw being one of 4 shortlisted practices for a joint RTPI and Greater London Authority award for good practice. The scheme recently won Best Heritage Led Project at the London Planning Awards.
