BPTW’s planning consultancy team obtained a resolution to grant full planning approval in July 2021 for a new state of the art facility on London South East College’s Greenwich campus alongside 294 new homes, providing a significant affordable housing offer.

The redevelopment will transform the underutilised college building enabling LSEC to meet a number of its goals including increasing the number of qualifications and skills gained by 30% by 2027 and bolstering its apprenticeship provision from 45 to 264 a year. Significant improvements to the public realm for the community, students and residents, are also integral to the scheme, with a specific focus on reactivating the local streets as well as providing a new street to improve connectivity and access. The design also achieves a BREAAM Outstanding rating, ensuring the building positively contributes to the surrounding environment.

Our team led the pre-application discussions with Royal Borough of Greenwich and Greater London Authority officers, participated in a range of community consultation events, ensured collaboration between two clients and their respective design teams, coordinated the submission of the planning application and negotiated the scope of conditions and S106 Heads of Terms. A measure of success of the comprehensive and positive pre-application process was that little to no scheme amendments were required post-submission, and the application was approved by Committee within 5 months.
