bptw’s Thrale Almshouses scheme in Streatham has been shortlisted for the second time in the Housing Design Awards. Having previously been shortlisted in the ‘project’ category, the scheme has now been recognised in the ‘completed’ category following its completion last year.
The project for Thrale Almshouses and Relief in Need Charity involved the sensitive refurbishment and extension of 8 existing locally listed 1 bed Almshouses and 9 new build spacious flats in a mix of 1 and 2 bedroom units, including wheelchair dwellings.
The development was finished last summer and officially opened by Chuka Umunna MP in October 2015. Since then it has gone on to feature in Building Magazine where the project was hailed for successfully combining heritage retention with complimentary modern design. The winners of the awards will be announced at an awards ceremony on 11th July.
