A number of bptw staff took part in the recent #seemejoinme campaign on twitter to raise awareness of opportunities for females within the construction industry and contribute to the wider campaign which sought to inspire more females into the industry.
The UK construction industry employs over 2.5 million people with women making up just 11% of the sector and only 1.2% in manual labour positions. The campaign asked women across the world to take a selfie in their workplace to highlight the opportunities available out there for women, and show that careers in construction are not off limits to girls. Created to correspond with International Women’s Day, the campaign was launched by RIBA president elect Jane Duncan. Tweets using the campaign hashtag came from across the UK as well as further afield in India, France and America.
