Axe Street approved for planning

bptw have successfully received permission to redevelop Axe Street’s former Abbey Sports Centre into a mixed-use PRS scheme, delivering 150 homes alongside 3350 sqm of commercial and retail space.

Both bptw’s architectural and planning teams have been working collaboratively with client Lindhill as well as the council’s regeneration and planning team in finalising designs for the scheme. It will act as a key marker building, serving as the latest addition to the regeneration currently underway in Barking.

The proposed building varies in height, from between 2 and 13 storeys. The ground floor will be dedicated to retail and leisure facilities, including a cinema. On the first floor there will be offices and above this there will be residential accommodation. The residential provision of the development consists mainly of one and two bed apartments, with a small number of three bedroom apartments. The shape has been modelled to optimise the number of dual aspect homes, maximising sunlight in living spaces.
