Humes Avenue, Ealing

Client: Notting Hill Housing Trust

Humes Avenue is a contemporary and stylish development of 9 terrace homes in Hanwell, Ealing. Sited in a mainly residential road, the development seeks to reconnect the street scene by providing a continuation of the existing street frontage.

Referencing the neighbouring buildings, the houses utilise similar proportions and building materials to adjacent properties. Differing window treatments adds variety and aesthetic appeal whilst also maximising daylight into the properties and creating natural surveillance to the street and parking areas; bay windows reflect those found on nearby houses and dormer windows to the rear of the properties allow for a third bedroom in the roof in the majority of houses. All homes are reserved for shared ownership and feature effective cross ventilation, low energy lighting, aerating taps and natural landscaping. Responding to local concerns relating to parking, a design typology was adopted that ensured all parking was provided off street, in front of the new homes.

The quality of the scheme was recently recognised with a commendation at the Sunday Times British Home Awards.
