Shepherdess Walk

bptw partnership has provided quantity surveyor services for the award-winning design of a large inner-city residential development.

The Manhattan Loft Corporation development in Shepherdess Walk, Islington, has transformed the 110,000 square-foot of space, which comprised a six-storey courtyard warehouse, into a beautifully designed complex of new homes.

Recognised as a model for warehouse refurbishment and conversion to residential space, the project has attracted international and national acclaim and received an RIBA Award in 2000.

The new development provides high-quality private residential units on the upper floors of the building with commercial space occupying the ground floor, and basement car parking underground.

Innovative steelwork design has resulted in a unique private courtyard at the core of the building, and the rooftop conversion to pavilions and a garden provides residents with a highly prized sanctuary in a busy inner city area. Materials used throughout the scheme include steel sections, Iroko, zinc, glass and timber.

The Shepherdess Walk development has been the highlight of various architectural publications and journals.
