Havelock Estate

bptw partnership is currently working with the London Borough of Ealing to re-design the run down Havelock Estate which is suffering from lack of amenity space, overcrowding, poor layouts, lack of a street pattern and anti-social behaviour. Working with Ealing Council’s Housing Regeneration department, bptw has carried out a design assessment of regeneration opportunities for the estate, working closely with residents who were consulted on the potential options considered.

The time span for consultation was short, with the council demanding detailed options quickly from meetings. With a flexible approach to design options and using our comprehensive community consultation experience, bptw undertook an intensive consultation process which saw staff meeting regularly with a resident steering group to discuss ideas, listen to their views and aspirations for their new homes whilst helping them to understand density, traditional street patterns, layouts and phasing requirements quickly, but with a sensitive approach.

By having an open and flexible approach at the outset of the project, bptw’s strategy which came out of the consultation meetings was strongly supported by residents and key stakeholders including the Council.
