RHP Head Offices

bptw partnership has won an invited competition to design the new head offices for Richmond Housing Partnership.

Based in Waldegrave Road, Teddington, the scheme will comprise 5,200sq/m of commercial floor space with the flexibility for sub letting. The new offices are to develop a public identity within the local community and accommodate future growth of the company.

The winning competition entry proposed a modern three storey building set back from the street creating a generous approach and opens the view towards the adjacent library. The new offices are separated into three wings, the principal wing facing Waldegrave Road with a continuous street frontage reinforcing the existing urban grain. Two further wings project into the site to create a central courtyard space that maximises natural light into the building and provides a break-out space for staff.

As the user enters the building they will be met with key views across the office. The double height space entrance will offer glimpses of the first floor boardroom while the ground floor exhibition space will have the background of the attractive landscaping to the rear of the site.

Using a modern design, interest is created by the variation within each bay using differing types of glazing and solar shading. A contemporary brise soleil structure is to be added to the southern end of the building to help control thermal gains. Using photovoltaic panels located on the roof as a green energy source, the scheme will meet the 20% renewable energy requirement for the building and achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.
