Pepys

bptw partnership are the architects and masterplanners of the award-winning regeneration of the former Pepys estate.

Sustainability and connecting public realm space, while maximising the unique and historical location of the residential development was the key objective for the masterplan and design of Pepys. Overlooking the River Thames in Deptford, the scheme has been constructed over three phases and provides 260 new homes of mixed tenure, including spacious apartments and houses.

bptw partnership has worked in partnership with the design team to implement a timber frame construction solutions for the development - taking the modern method of construction to unconventional heights of seven storeys. Highly energy-efficient and built according to Lifetime Homes and Secured By Design standards, Pepys offers residents a robust, safe and economically sustainable living environment.

High quality materials of brick, timber cladding, galvanised and timber balconies and glazed entrance halls are articulated throughout the scheme in an architectural style that assimilates with neighbouring Grade II listed heritage buildings while paying homage to the site's history as the Royal Dockyards. The warehouse aesthetic is complimentary to the neighbouring Convyos Wharf development and local architecture.

Connecting public and green spaces at Pepys was another core objective of the masterplan, providing overlooked and accessible thoroughfares from surrounding nature reserves, the Thames Path and Admiralty Square to the residential community. Home Zone principles have been employed to ensure that pedestrian traffic is a priority, while thoroughfares and links to public transport have enhanced employment and access opportunities for residents and provided an environmentally friendly option for travel.

Pepys has achieved two Building for Life Silver Standard awards from CABE in 2006 and 2009 and also the best Public Housing Development category at the Brick Awards in 2005.
