Church Grove

bptw partnership was approached to design new accommodation for a small travelling community in Lewisham, south east London.

Extensive consultation was undertaken at the outset to understand the Travellers specific needs. This process drew out a detailed brief, helping to identify the requirements for the amenity buildings that would offer flexible living space, a kitchen and utility area, a bathroom and storage. Consultation also took place with surrounding residents to help ease the process.

The scheme comprises five pitches each with an amenity block and space for a static home/tourer caravan, surrounded by grass and paving. The designs incorporate a number of sustainable measures including: a grass roof for each amenity building, solar thermal panels, a Sustainable Urban Drainage System, soft landscaping and movable planters.
