Greenwich Wharf
bptw partnership has designed the affordable housing component of a residential scheme that will transform 1.3 million square feet of brownfield land with continuous frontage onto the River Thames.
Situated to the east of the former Royal Naval College, a World Heritage Site, the development will link East Greenwich to the town centre, surrounding parks and transport links. Overall the development comprises 667 residential units and mixed use units. bptw has been workig in collaboration with lead architect Squire and Partners, and has been directly responsible for the design of 267 mixed tenure homes and provided consultancy on the sustainability of the scheme.
bptw partnership is currently working on the detailed design which includes a seven-storey apartment building and three-storey four-bedroom houses. Ten per cent of the housing provision will be specifically designed for wheelchair use and the scheme seeks to achieve an EcoHomes rating of excellent. Renewable energy features will include power from ground source heat pumps, and sustainability is at the core of the scheme’s design and construction.
The new homes will be available for private sale, shared ownership and affordable rent. bptw partnership’s extensive experience in affordable and mixed tenure housing delivery has ensured that a sustainable mix of homes formed part of the vision for the site.
A key feature of the new development will be the integration of public spaces, maximising the unique views over the River Thames, linking East Greenwich to the town centre and providing a catalyst for design excellence in planned regeneration and development for the local region.
The first phase of new build project for Greenwich Wharf started on-site in 2008 with completion expected in 2010.
