Excalibur Estate, Downham
Operating as planning consultant on one of the last remaining post war pre-fab estates in London, bptw worked extensively with the GLA and English Heritage to secure planning approval for the former Excalibur Estate, a large scale residential regeneration project for L&Q. The new development will see 186 pre-fab homes being replaced with 371 new houses and apartments across a mix of tenures. Associated community space, road systems and infrastructure will also be created as part of the regeneration.
bptw worked closely with the community and local councillors to manage the conflict between safeguarding an established community and providing homes for future occupiers. With the project generating significant media interest, bptw were able to put forward a persuasive case, demonstrating why issues of long-term concern could only be rectified through the redevelopment. Our planning application for the site was approved in April 2011 by the local council, and subsequently by the GLA.
