bptw’s unique housing scheme for women aged over 60yrs has been shortlisted for the Housing Design Awards. The Thrale Almshouses scheme involves the sensitive refurbishment and extension of eight existing locally listed 1 bed Almshouses and 9 spacious new build 1 and 2 bed flats including wheelchair dwellings. A secure landscaped internal courtyard caters to residents’ needs, providing a sensory space with potential for small raised allotment areas.
The homes are designed to Lifetime Homes standards and have a southerly aspect, maximising sunlight exposure to individual units. The layout retains a sense of community through a simple approach to circulation and shared views of the garden to all flats
The Housing Design Awards are now in their 66th year and are supported by the Government and key industry professionals. Results for this year’s award will be announced in July.
