Last week bptw received unanimous approval for Store Road at LB Newham’s planning committee last week. The scheme provides 163 new homes in an area of North Woolwich earmarked for thousands of new homes and jobs as part of the Borough’s ‘Vision for the Royal Docks’ and ‘Arc of Opportunity’. The current site is surrounded by under-utilised industrial land as well as being within the city airport safety zone and a designated floodzone. These factors all called for a highly creative and technically sound approach, capable of standing alone or as part of a wider masterplan framework. Being the first former industrial site in the immediate area to receive approval, this is a hugely positive and a strategically significant outcome, with this contemporary high quality scheme offering potential to kick-start regeneration for this waterfront location. The scheme has been designed on behalf of The Hyde Group and Galliford Try. Construction is set to start in 2018 and complete in 2020. The site will provide a range of high quality homes, all benefiting from the waterfront views, and generous communal amenity, with 40% of the homes to be provided as affordable, and at least 30% as family housing.
bptw provided architecture and visualisation services on the project which is one of a number of exciting projects we are developing in the immediate area. We worked closely with the Newham Planning Department and the DRP over the duration of the project to ensure a scheme of exceptional quality which maximised the site’s capacity. By pushing density on the site, the contemporary brick led scheme has maximised development potential for the adjacent sites to be developed in the future.
