Waters Square, Kingston upon Thames

Client: Thames Valley Housing

Waters Square is a residential scheme consisting of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, arranged within an individual flat block, and 2 and 3 bedroom houses. Highly commended at planning committee, the affordable homes are being built on a redundant triangular site in Kingston which informed the layout of the development.

The surrounding context has been reinterpreted into a modern vernacular, with the large roofs of surrounding buildings being replicated in bptw’s design which incorporates steep pitches, allowing generously sized attic rooms to be formed. Houses have been arranged with wide frontages to aid passive surveillance of the street and to maximise the size of rear gardens. A stepped arrangement allows pockets of landscaping to be included and discrete parking spaces to be incorporated.
