Stockwell Community Centre, Stockwell
The striking modern design and a highly successful consultation programme have resulted in a truly useable building fro the residents of Stockwell. Our architects worked closely with local residents who inputted into the siting, planning and appearance of the community centre. Flexibility of use was a priority within the design - activity zones have been created, linked by a glazed lobby and seating area, and a private rear garden can be used as part of the crèche or as separate function space. The centre is orientated to take maximum advantage of natural daylight and ventilation without excessive solar gain. Green materials have been used extensively, including recycled paper wall insulation, recycled flooring and traditional wall render finishes.
The project acts as very effective and popular community hub. The building is used for the local MP’s surgery, contains project rooms, a crèche and flexible function spaces.
