Horton Wharf, West Drayton

Client: Danescroft Land Ltd

Horton Wharf is a distinctive canal side development providing 87 homes, with a high proportion for private sale. The scheme provides one and two bed apartments within 3 apartment blocks, as well as a town house family home. Basement parking allows for the high level of car-ownership envisaged for the development, whilst maximising communal amenity space.

The apartment blocks are orientated around dedicated character areas to create visual breaks along the canal, whilst a cafe space is strategically provided on the canal access point, further enhancing the canal frontage and public realm. Considering the wider context along the canal, the scheme reflects the form of traditional canal side buildings, employing a saw tooth roof scape, industrial balcony railing and robust brick detailing. The building footprints are chamfered to respond to the bend in the canal and maximize amenity areas throughout the site. In response to the urban fabric, the blocks chamfer and increase in height along the canal towards Colham Bridge, creating a characteristic vocal point for the High Street, canal and towpath.
