Ham Close, Richmond
bptw have designed the masterplan for the regeneration of Ham Close estate in Richmond. The major redevelopment aims to provide 425 dwellings in buildings which range from 2 to 6 storeys, providing a mixture of homes reflecting local need including three to four bed houses. With landscaping at the heart of the masterplan the design incorporates and connects the green spaces that surround the estate, bringing the adjacent environment into the estate through landscaped pathways and a Garden Link.
Working with Richmond Housing Partnership, the Borough of Richmond Upon Thames and in consultation with residents and local stakeholders, bptw have produced a design which reflect the unique and distinctive character of the Ham Close neighbourhood. The architectural vision has been developed using a mix of building types and variety of heights, with variations in roof form, materials and textures utilised to create a varied street scene built around defined character areas. Although the design draws reference from the local context, a high quality contemporary design will create a distinct character for the neighbourhood and stand as a marker of positive change for the Ham Close Estate and wider neighbourhood.
