Gallon Close, Charlton

Client: Family Mosaic

Gallon Close is an exemplar of high quality design, succesful partnering and sustainable living. The development for Family Mosaic, funded by the HCA and GLA, comprises seven 4 bed family homes which have exceeded Code Level 5. The scheme uses a mix of green technologies including a structural insulated panel system, rainwater harvesting, photovoltaic panels, triple glazing and whole house ventilation heat recovery systems. Designed to ambitious air leakage targets, the building fabric also utilises enhanced thermal insulation.

bptw worked closely with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the technologies offer practical, cost effective solutions that deliver long term results. A system of sustainable timber procurement was implemented though the contractor, delivering in excess of 50% of timber products from Forestry Stewardship Council sources. The scheme was used by Boris Johnson as an example of successful sustainable housing in London.
