Beechwood Village, Basildon

Client: Swan Housing Association

Beechwood Village is delivering a dramatic transformation to the former Craylands estate in Basildon for Swan Housing. With 587 new factory built homes set to be delivered on the site, bptw with Landscape Architects Outerspace have been responsible for the overall masterplan together with the detailed design for sites in the North and South of the estate. The masterplan has a genuine community focus with environmental and landscaping improvements throughout, linking Northlands Park in the east to The Fryth in the west via a substantial green heart at the centre of the development.

The scheme has been developed in close liaison with Swan, its development partners Basildon Borough Council and the HCA as well as the residents of the existing estate. All the new homes will be manufactured off site volumetrically by Swan's property development arm, NU living, in a new factory set to open in Basildon.

Resolution to grant planning approval was secured in October 2016, and houses will begin being delivered from the factory to the sites in spring 2017. Beechwood was recently shortlisted in the Housing Design Awards 2017.
