Axe Street, Barking

Client: Lindhill

Redeveloping the former Abbey Sports Centre at Axe Street, this major mixed-use scheme will deliver 150 new homes along with around 3,350sqm of commercial and retail space – including a cinema and office spaces – as well as extensive improvements to the public realm.

bptw have worked closely with Lindhill and the LB Barking & Dagenham regeneration and planning team in finalising designs for a dynamic landmark building for the town centre, adding to the regeneration already happening in this part of Barking. Our work on the site will also allow a further enhancing of the area as a civic quarter which will complement the existing surrounding leisure and community uses in the town centre.

The proposed building varies in height from 2 to 13 storeys comprising retail and leisure uses at ground level. The commercial offices are at first floor with the market rent apartments on the upper levels.

The scheme was approved for planning in October 2016.
